I don't know about you all, but these colder days my car and my bike are making new noises....
So, I found a few tips through Bicycle Magazine..
If you hear a click or a popping noise; check for loose spokes and valve stems. Otherwise, spokes may be rubbing the nipples.
" " ...Creeeaakk noises; check your seatpost and saddle rails. Test out by standing out of the saddle and see if the noise stops.
" " ...Creeeaakk again; check your handlebar and stem. Lube all the bolts and contact surfaces.
" " ...Creeaakk again; Wheel Skewers. Check by opening and retightening the skewer. Should make a creak disapppear.
" " ...Grinding, followed by a creeaakk noise; test your wheels hub. Taking the wheel off the bike and spinning it, holding at the skewer to feel for any play in the hub. If there is play, bring it in to us to evaluate the wheel for safety.
" " ...Click, followed by Creeaakk; the headset. To identify with continuous clicking, ride with no hands. To check for occasional creaking, stand over the top tube and keep the front wheel planted. Then grab the drops and pull up on while pushing down on the other.
OR
Check the Bottom Bracket. Listen for the creak below while you're riding. If your chainring bolts aren't tight, they will click. Remove the bottom bracket and regrease the bearings while your at it if they need it. You can tell if they don't roll smoothly that they should be regreased.
Hope this helps you!
